Metadata Utility BackEnd BackUp

Creates a BackUp of any (or all) BackEnd(s). For example, prior of making a massive update in the entire Metadata Utility Library. This feature however does NOT replace a Computer/System BackUp and should be used as a complementary feature for any user’s BackUp strategy.

Note

Note: each BackEnd BackUp is stored in the same location where the BackEnd(s) reside. For example: If 'WBe01.mde' is located in 'C:\DBases\Data\WBe01.mde', then the BackUp for 'WBe01.mde' will be located in 'C:\DBases\Data\WBe01BkUp.mde'. With our current release, there is no automated 'Restore' from BackUp. This is due to avoid user's accidentally running a restore of an old BackUp and loose all new data. In case that a Restore is needed, then the recovery steps are as follows:

  • Exit out of Metadata Utility
  • Restore the appropriate BackEnd(s) to the same location where the existing BackEnd(s) are located.
  • Launch Metadata Utility
  • Metadata Utility - Operation - Maintenance Switchboard - BackEnd Rebuild

Rebuilds any (or all) BackEnd(s). Designed for Advanced Users. This feature is not to be confused with Backing Up XML Files and/CoverArt Files. This powerful feature is particularly important in cases where the BackEnd(s) have grown in size and you whish to reclaim any possible space back.  By re-building the BackEnd, process which will migrate all data from the exiting (selected) BackEnd (or all BackEnds if no BackEnd was selected), to the newly built BackEnd, reclaim any unused space ie. compact the newly built BackEnd and reclaim any available space back to the Hard Drive.
For this process to work, it is necessary to have the needed BackEnd Template available (BackEnd Templates are installed during a normal/Default installation of Metadata Utility).

    Note

A BackUp of the existing BackEnd is always automatically created prior to the BackEnd Re-Build.
