(click once) shows you records that don’t have a master record (Metadata Utility is an RDBMS and it is possible, that accidentally, a master record was, for some reason deleted (this action MUST be done by a user, as there is no Data Loss possible in Metadata Utility, meaning that under no circumstances, Metadata Utility can/could/will ever Delete a Master Record that was inserted either automatically or manually. You will noticed that once you’ve click on the ‘Orphan’ Button, Metadata Utility will read ‘Metadata Utility: Orphan Records’ and the Button will read ‘LOSM’.

Options:
-you can force Metadata Utility to ‘Delete’ the ‘Orphan’ Records – see ‘Delete Orphan Records’ Section
-you can recover/re-link ‘Orphan’ Records – see Repair ‘Orphan’ Records Section
-you can leave the ‘orphan records’ forever in Metadata Utility. In such case, ‘Orphan’ Records will never be selected automatically for XML File generation for Windows Media Center.

You will noticed that once you’ve click on the ‘Orphan’ Button, Metadata Utility will read ‘Metadata Utility: Orphan Records’ and the Button will read ‘All Records’ (44)

Note: ‘Orphan’ Records will always have the following Fields blank (all Master Data will be missing):
‘Title’ (44),
‘Date’ (44),
‘ID’ (44),
‘Cast’ (44),
‘Director’ (44),
‘Genre’ (44),
‘Overview’ (44),
‘Tagline’ (44),
‘Duration’ (44),
‘Studio’ (44),
‘Data Provider’ (44),
‘MPAA Rating’ (44),
‘Community Rating’ (44),
‘Provider Rating’ (44).
