'The Movie Database' (TMDb) is the main Metadata source. To use this service, you need to sign up for 'The Movie Database' (TMDb) and request an API Key:-Login to TMDB (https://www.themoviedb.org)-(Click on your) User ID (top right corner) and select - Settings-(left side click) API-Request API Key-Copy the 'API Key (v3 auth)' key and paste it as the first option in the 'Data Provider Key Management' Tool.

No. any of the *.mde Files (also called 'Back-Ends) are used to store your Movie Library Metadata Information.Without ANY of the *.mde Back-End Files, Metadata Utility will NOT be able to function.

Can I enter the Name of my NAS, instead the IP Address?

Yes you can.In that event, please keep in mind, that your Router MUST be online as in most Home SetUps, the Router also works are your main and only DNS (Domain Name Service) Server.This means, if your home router is offline, Metadata Utility will keep waiting for the NAS Name response from your home Router and in that case, eventually have a time out with an error. This will happen, even if your NAS is online in your home network --unless you are an expert and have created entries in your localhost file for the necessary NAS resources--.To avoid this issue, we recommend you enter the IP Address (then Metadata Utility won't need to wait on an answer from your Router, it will simply Ping the IP Address instead).

Can I install Metadata Utility using a 'custom path' (install Metadata Utility in another location, rather than the default location)?

Metadata Utility's Linked Table Management allows to Re-Link the Back-End(s) to a new location.That said, there is no Support provided for custom installations of Metadata Utility. The main reason for this is that over the years we've seen 'custom' installations of Metadata Utility in ways that are actually NOT correct (ie. Thumbdrive/USB Drive(s), etc) and for those reasons, is that we have the policy in place that no Support will be provided for custom installations of Metadata Utility.For additional Information, see section 'Metadata Utility - Operation - Linked Table Manager' click here.

We had the ' X ' on the main Switchboard deactivated. For years on, we've gone back and forward --due to the requests from our customers, when we had it, customers requested that we killed it. When it's gone, then customers, requested, for some reason, that we bring it back on-- with 'x ' on, to 'x ' off the switchboard.Bottom line is, even with the 'x ' off/grayed out/deactivated on the Switchboard, there are still other ways someone 'accidentally' can close the Switchboard.Those users will just have to learn NOT to close the Switchboard 'accidentally' : ).

Metadata Utility is by design capable to accommodate ANY XML / Metadata Management. This means, that if you use ANY other 'Media Center' like product --there are some other Windows Media center competitors/replacements out there--, then Metadata Utility could support those products as well.Having that said, those features are NOT part of the current production version of Metadata Utility at this time.Should we incorporate support for other Media Center like products, then, Yes, you will also get a free upgrade though new functionality may require an additional License.

Due to demand, we offer 30 Days as well as 6 Month and 1 Year Licenses. Each License is valid from the Date of Purchase.For example, if you have a 1 Year License and you purchase a new License one month before you existing License expires, then your new License will be valid from the date you purchase it (not from the date your existing license expires).Our Standard Lifetime Licenses are NOT affected by this. If you purchase a Lifetime License, then you own that License will never expire.Note: Lifetime Licenses and/or 6 Moth, 1 Year Licenses have each a maximum of 5 Activations per each License. After the 5th activation limit has been reached, then the License will become locked to the 5th activated PC.

Verify the Case events on each of the records where the error was found (see suspect Queue to list all records found with an issue), and re-verify the Network Path is correct for the given Media (Movie, Series, etc) is correct and that Metadata Utility can access the Path, then, re-start the Batch Process ie. Metadata Utility was abnormally closed which may cause BackEnd(s) to be left in an improper shutdown stage.To resolve this issue, do the following:-Exit Properly out of 'Metadata Utility' using the Exit Button (Main Switchboard)-If 'Metadata Utility' is installed in a Network environment, make sure no other users are currently connected to any of the BackEnds, then-Open 'Metadata Utility' again ('Metadata Utility' will automatically attempt to repair any BackEnds that may have been improperly closed).

Metadata Utility is licensed per PC (Personal Computer) and NOT per User that logs in to a PC.As an example: A single License can be installed in One (1) PC. If you whish to migrate your License from your existing registered PC to a new PC, then you must deactivate your license and then move it to the new PC.If you want on more than one computer to use Metadata Utility to manage your movie Library for more computers, then you have some options:-you can purchase an additional license for each computer that you want to use the full capabilities of Metadata Utility.-you can install a new version of Metadata Utility and use the free functionality that is available in all installations of Metadata Utility. For more information see License Comparison vs. Free Version click here.Note: there is a Maximum limit of 5 Activations per License. After a Maximum License Activation has been reached, then the license will become locked to that last (5th activation) activated PC. Closing the Switchboard will close Metadata Utility automatically. That said, on legacy versions of Metadata Utility, closing the Switchboard will render Metadata Utility without it's Main Switchboard. In such case, you will need to close the application and launch it again. Since the ' X ' to close Metadata Utility is grayed out, you will need to use your keyboard:While having Metadata Utility window active, then press on your keyboard:ALT + F4(while pressing the ALT key on your keyboard, then press the F4 key - Metadata Utility will close --abnormally, but it will close--).

Each Country Code (and thus Country) is allows you to determine an InputMask for the mentioned above Fields in within Metadata Utility.

As described by Microsoft and in compliance with Metadata Utility's Programming:

InputMask PropertyYou can use the InputMask property to make data entry easier and to control the values users can enter in a text box control. Read/write String.

RemarksInput masks are helpful for data-entry operations such as an input mask for a Phone Number field that shows you exactly how to enter a new number: () -__.

The InputMask property can contain up to three sections separated by semicolons (;).

Section DescriptionFirst Specifies the input mask itself; for example, !(999) 999-9999. For example, if you were moving all movies from 'Zz\Wmedia' from NAS '\192.168.199.54' to NAS '\192.168.199.53', then by using the Filter Option you can easily select those records, then easily edit each Record in within the Subset we just filtered and switch the NAS '\192.168.199.54' to NAS '\192.168.199.53'. Once completed the migration of your Data to the new NAS, then you can easily Generate the updated/new XML File which with the updated Data Path's for:-Your Movies new location-Coverart new Media Locationas well as any additional changes that you may have done on any of the other Fields in Metadata Utility (Cast, Director, etc)

If you want to remove the Filter and go back to see 'All Records' you have options:

-Navigate to each Field that you have applied a Filter (yes, you can apply multiple Filters on multiple Fields), then-right click and select (for this example) 'Clear Filter on PathID02' to go back to see all records again.

Metadata Utility comes with a Pre-Build List of approximately 200+ of the most commonly known Studios.If you have a movie in which the Studio is not in the list, you can always Double Click on the Studio Field to Open the Studio List and Edit, Add, Studios as needed.Note: If you overwrite, rename or delete a Studio Name, then keep in mind that any existing record in Metadata Utility that had that Studio linked, than those movies will automatically be updated with the change (and/or deletion) of the Studio that you just made (Remember Metadata utility is an RDBMS. Since all Data is linked, if you change one record, you can potentially affect many other records).We recommended, that you don't Delete Studios, but better Add more, if needed.'Out of the box' Metadata Utility comes with approximately 5399 pre-allocated of Records, out of which, in the case of the 'Studio' List only 200+ are in use, thus leaving plenty records available for further use before Metadata Utility will require additional action to increase the number of possible Studios available : ).

Metadata Utility uses 3 Main Fields to Build the Path for any Movie. Out of the box Metadata Utility comes with a Pre-Built List for 'Path Builder 01' and 'Path Builder 02'.

Should be the NAS Name (UNC Path) or IP (UNC Path) - see examples immediately to the right.In order to create/add a list, just, as with any of the drop downs, double click on the field to open the list and edit as needed.

For Example:If you have all your movies in within to NAS Storages, then you would create a record for each NAS:

\192.168.199.53\192.168.199.54

(Notice is JUST the IP in UNC Format and at the end of the NAS IP and/or NAS Name there is NO Backslash at the end of the NAS Name or IP Address - Metadata Utility will add a backlash after the NAS and/or IP automatically).

If you want to enter the NAS by Name, then:

\NAS01\NAS02

Notice, there is NO Backslash after the NAS IP (or NAS Name).Do NOT include a Backslash after the NAS IP (or NAS Name) as Metadata Utility will do that automatically (see in Section 'Path' as described before).

While 'Path Builder 01' Key is opened you won't be able to click on any other Windows that may be opened in the background. Close 'Path Builder 01' Key to be able to go back to any other opened windows that may be opened in the background inside 'Metadata Utility.

Note: Use extreme caution before deleting ANY Path Builder 01 from the list as a deletion of a Path Builder 01 will also delete that Path Builder 01 Information from ALL Records that were linked to that Path Builder 01. For the ongoing example of a 2 NAS Setup with 27 Shares on each NAS (an in within these 27 different Shares are all the movies stored), then you basically have a good idea how flexible Metadata Utility can be.Do NOT include a Backslash at the end of Path Builder 02 as Metadata Utility will do that automatically (see in Section 'Path' as described before).

Full Path:

Shows you the Movie Path that built using Path Builder 01 + Path Builder 02 + Path Builder 03. Use this section to: double check that the Patch you built is accurate, that no double backslashes are found in within (middle) your built path --if there are, is because you added a backslash in either Path Builder 01 and/or Path Builder 02 and in such case, you need to go back, edit your entry and remove that backslash you entered-- as well as checking that you did NOT entered a backslash at the end on Path Builder 03.

A good way to check if the path you are seeing is correct, is to open the path by double clicking on the 'Full Path' field and let Metadata Utility open the path:

If Metadata Utility is unable to open that path, then an Automatic Event will be generated indicating that the path you created is wrong and needs to be double checked and be corrected (as seen in the picture to the right showing the Automatic Case Event generated indicating the Path to the Movie could not be found --for example a cause could be that if the NAS/Partition where you have your movies is offline, then you will get that message. If you also have an error in your Path you build using Path builder, then you will see that error as your path will be wrong. In that case, then make the corrections as necessary and try again--).

Location where the Movie Data Files are normally stored. This section is specially useful for advanced users and advanced troubleshooting.
